Adidas has said that their background is “firmly rooted in sports”, which means that your sneakers might be getting dirty and scuffed more often than, say, your Gucci slippers. Adidas are an investment, and you want to keep them looking good for as long as possible. Follow these five essential steps, and your sneakers will thank you by staying pristine and comfortable.
Step 1: Get Prepped with the Essentials
Before you start cleaning your Adidas, make sure you have everything necessary set up. You’ll need a good quality shoe cleanser, a good quality shoe soap, a gentle brush, a microfiber cloth, and we highly recommend using a Shoe Cube.
Step 2: Wash the Outsole
The outsole is the bottom of your shoe that touches the ground. Start by putting your shoe soap into a dispensing brush and begin scrubbing in a gentle motion. If the outsole has a lot of caked on dirt, you may want to try and remove as much of it as possible before applying the soap. Once you’ve scrubbed it clean, use a damp microfiber cloth to rinse off. For the rubber strip connecting the outsole to the uppers, use a Shoe Cube to wipe all around until it is totally clean.
Step 3: Wash the Uppers
The upper is the top part of your Adidas that covers your whole foot. Working one section at a time, using a foaming cleanser and brush to gently scrub and lift up any dirt and grime. Once the upper is completely scrubbed, take a damp microfiber cloth to rinse off.
Step 4: Wash the Laces
If your laces need to be cleaned you can either use the Lace Washer 9000 or put them into a bowl of warm water and shoe soap. Gently agitate the laces to remove the dirt. Squeeze any excess water out with a paper towel.
Step 5: Let Them Air Dry
Now that your Adidas are clean, it’s time to let them dry. Position your sneakers and laces in a room-temperature area away from direct sunlight. This step requires patience, as rushing can lead to dampness and a reunion with dirt.
Cleaning your Adidas sneakers is not just about maintaining their appearance; it's about preserving their life and performance. By following these steps, you ensure that your sneakers are not only clean but also in prime condition for whatever adventures lie ahead. Remember, a clean sneaker is a happy sneaker.
